Norwegian company Fell Tech, with its Waterguard product, and Swedish company Tollco are both leading players in water damage prevention. As stricter building regulations for kitchens are introduced in both countries, the two companies have signed an agreement enabling them to offer each other’s products in their respective markets.
To reduce the number of water damage incidents in kitchens, Säker Vatten is introducing new regulations in Sweden from July 1st. At the same time, Norway’s Directorate for Building Quality (DiBK) is moving toward tightening its own regulations.
"In Sweden, it will now be mandatory to combine traditional collection trays with a leak stopper that automatically shuts off the water supply in case of leakage. Fell Tech’s Waterguard is the best on the market, and now we can offer it in Sweden – something we are very proud of," says Clas Crafoord Olsson, CEO of Tollco.
Leak stoppers have been required in Norway for many years. As a result, Waterguard is already installed in over half a million Norwegian kitchens, and Fell Tech supplies approximately 70,000 new units annually. At the same time, water-resistant cabinet bases, which prevent water from spreading in case of leaks, are on their way to becoming a requirement in Norway. The regulations for collection trays under kitchen sinks, dishwashers, and refrigerators are also relatively new.
"Tollco is Europe’s leading company for collection trays for kitchen cabinets, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, and other water-connected appliances. Their products are compatible with all types of household appliances and come in a variety of sizes. This makes it a perfect match that we can now offer Tollco’s products alongside Waterguard," says Christian Frost Røine, CEO of Fell Tech.
The industry is welcoming the increased focus on water damage prevention:
"Sintef supports this initiative and believes that increased attention and stronger expertise in leak prevention are positive developments," says Lars-Erik Fiskum, Research Director at Sintef.
The agreement between Tollco and Fell Tech is ongoing and estimated to be worth between 30 and 50 million NOK.
